Pirbright-based embroiderer Rhoda Nevins, a member of the team that embroidered the Duchess of Cambridge's wedding dress, recently completed this beautiful hand embroidered tapestry of Guildford skyline.

Measuring almost four feet by seven and a half feet, this embroidery has taken four years to complete and will be officially unveiled by the Mayor of Guildford, Jennifer Jordan, at G Live in April.

Rhoda, who designed the entire embroidery and recruited fellow embroiderers to help her carry out the work, knows Guildford well, as she served as Mayoress between 2007 and 2008 with her late husband Mike.

"I got the idea for the embroidery when a friend sent a postcard depicting Millennium embroidery at Sunbury and the idea of doing an embroidery of Guildford skyline came to me - it was my light bulb moment," she says.

The keen-eyed may spot the High Street, the Mayor's procession, the farmers’ market, cathedral, GuilFest, G Live, the river with raft racing and the castle grounds among the Guildford icons featured.

Rhoda is holding several Introduction to Embroidery workshops in the coming months. For further information, visit softimpressions.co.uk
