What is your role with the Horning Boat Show?
My husband Roger is chairman of the Horning Boat Show, and provides me with plenty to do, but my main role is the media contact.
Who started the show and why?
It was started in 2013 by Colin Boakes, a Horning resident, to raise funds for Horning projects and good causes.
What are some of the highlights of the day?
The Horning Boat Show is made up of three exhibition sites which include the Riverside Moorings, the Riverside Greens of Swan Green and Village Green and the main exhibition site at the Recreation Ground.
On the main site you will find a food court offering all sorts of wonderful food and drink. The Riverside sites and the main site will have boats of all sizes and other marine products and services. There is also entertainment on the main site throughout the day including singing, dancing, bird of prey demonstrations, music and much more. We are also proud to offer free stands for a whole host of charities.
What are you particularly looking forward to?
Apart from the Aerobatic Air Display which will take place during the afternoon, it is a wonderful sight, watching the visitors flooding into the village, spending their money and enjoying themselves.
What kind of village projects does the Show help fund?
The Horning Boat Show Community Fund invites bids from projects which will benefit the village for years to come. So far it has helped fund a bus shelter, children’s play area equipment, a defibrillator, work to the Village Hall and St Benet’s Hall, junior equipment for the local Bowls Club and a contribution for a new sailing club safety boat.
The Horning Boat Show is run by volunteers and is also the first event of the Broads Outdoor Festival which runs from May 2 to 17.
