Grasmere is great all year round
1. William Wordsworth claimed that Grasmere is ‘the most loveliest spot that man hath ever found’. Visit the Wordsworth Museum next door to the famous Dove Cottage, and discover the greatest collection of the Wordsworths’ letters, journals and poems in the world.
2. What trip to Grasmere would be complete without trying the world famous gingerbread? Victorian cook Sarah Nelson, invented Grasmere Gingerbread in 1854, since then it has become a true staple of the village with a reputation across the country. Today the business is ran by third-generation owners Joanne and Andrew Hunter, where everyday visitors are greeted with the inviting aroma of freshly baked Grasmere Gingerbread.
3. Have tea in one of the many excellent tea shops. The Miller Howe Café has recently been refurbished with the aim of creating a more nostalgic appeal to traditional food and service, while Baldry's teashop offers a traditional and pretty place to pass an hour while watching the tourists.
4. Sample some of the wonderul real ales in Tweedies Bar and stay for dinner. Or head around the corner to the quirky Jumble Room, a former Lancashire Life Restaurant of the Year.
5. Don’t go home! Grasmere is packed with good hotels and guest houses. We particularly like Dale Lodge the Wordsworth, and the recently refurbished Forest Side.
