National sports events company GO2 (UK) Ltd today confirmed the route of the first Gloucester 10K road race, taking place on Sunday, February 10, 2013, 9am

The new race starts in the city centre at Gloucester Park and takes runners on a scenic tour of the docks, followed by a large anti-clockwise loop incorporating Bristol Road, Cole Avenue and Stroud Road. The course is traffic free so that runners of all abilities can safely hit the streets.

“We have designed the route so runners can simply get up and go,” says race organiser, GO2’s Hannah Williams. “The course is mainly flat with only one section of gentle incline so it’s perfect for beginners, those looking to achieve a personal best or those using the race as part of their training routine.”

The Sunday morning race is expected to attract a good turnout and Gloucester residents are encouraged to get out and support the runners, with viewing spots along the docks on Llanthony Rd and the green spaces around the Cole Avenue/Epney Road junction.

British Heart Foundation is officially supporting the race and many runners will be raising money for charity.

Hannah Williams says, “Although there is just under a month to go before the race, there is still time to train for it, even for a complete beginner. If you need a bit of extra motivation to keep up with your new year’s resolutions then the Gloucester 10K is perfect; we’re expecting a great, supportive atmosphere and everyone who crosses the line will receive a medal and goodie bag.”
