The seventh Haslemere Festival, running from Friday May 12 to Sunday July 4, promises action packed weeks of art, culture, children’s entertainment, classical music, acoustic, folk, jazz and opera, talks, walks and more.
That’s before popular annual events, such as the Classic Car Show, Little Lumpy Cycle Sportive and, now in its third year, The Haslemere Bumpy Triathlon.
The festival begins with Haslemere Fringe Festival’s Jazz Morley performing acoustic, supported by singer/songwriters, Mack Hofberg and Bess Atwell. Then there’s the Phil Beer Band, with their instrumental wizardry and unique blend of folk ‘n’ roll.
Headlining the festival’s superb musical artistes is the Russian-British composer, pianist and conductor, Alissa Firsova and the celebrated string ensemble The Tippett Quartet. Alissa will be including her new string quartet, inspired by the poems of Alfred, Lord Tennyson and Haslemere’s beautiful countryside.
There’s also the world famous duo of Alina Ibragimova (violin) and Cédric Tiberghien (piano) who have appeared with many leading, international orchestras on the classical music festival circuit.
Haslemere Town Band will be breaking the brass band mould; Harlequin Chamber Choir is performing their eclectic repertoire; jazz pianist Gareth Williams will interpret the music of Bill Evans; and Haslemere’s Opera South present Fresh & Intimate Baroque.
Festival favourites, Tony Jacobs & The Tuxedo Jazz Orchestra will be recreating a heady cocktail of 1920s and 1930s tunes and Clive Osgood’s one act opera, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, specially commissioned by Imagine That Productions, will be performed by The Haslemere Singing Studio and Waverley Ensemble.
