Schools do their bit

Schoolchildren are being encouraged to get creative for this year’s show.

Show organisers, Hertfordshire Agricultural Society, are inviting schoolchildren to take part in a competition to write a poem about farm animals.

The winning three schools will receive 150 cash prize and a free class ticket to Willows Farm Village in London Colney (schools will have to make their own transport arrangements).

Every school that enters will receive one complimentary advance family ticket (2 adults + 2 children,) worth 30.40, to the show.

There are three age categories – 3 to 6 years, 7 to 9 years, 9 to 11 years – and schools can enter all three categories but can only submit one entry per category.

Once in-school judging has taken place, schools should post their entries by Friday May 13, 2011 to: County Show competition, Room 322, County Hall, Pegs Lane, Hertford, SG13 8DQ.

The poems will be displayed at the show and final judging will take place on the Saturday morning. There will be one winner per category.
