High street heroes in Altrincham

Meet the people, check out the places

With its rail and Metrolink connections, Altrincham is the perfect place for a day away from the hustle and bustle of big city shopping.

Here you'll find a strong selection of high street stores, complimented by a fantastic market and independent local retailers too, with the sort of service you might have forgotten existed!

In recent years, the town has suffered not only as a result of the Trafford Centre, but because of parking constraints, however traders have fought back on this one.

And it's this sort of positive attitude which seems to have paid off. During the last five or six years, Altrincham has seen a number of significant developments including a 100,000 refurbishment of its wonderful market, which included structural repairs, decorative work and improved access and which has also led to key events such as the annual Taste Sensation celebration, now in its fourth year and attracting more than 3,000 visitors.

There has been a 10m development of Altrincham Town Hall, including 49 apartments, 10,000sq ft of office space, a day nursery and refurbishment of the town hall, a 40 m development of the Stamford Shopping Quarter resulting in 146,000 sqft of additional retail space, with new retailers and a much improved 700 space car park and a 3.2m leisure development at Denmark Street, including new cinema, restaurants, residential properties and improved access via anew road at the junction of Denmark Street and Lloyd Street.

All this plus a year round temporary ice rink, home to Manchester Phoenix and the 5m Kingsway Development offering residential, retail and office accommodation.
