Staff shortlisted for the Western Sussex Hospital Trust’s first Staff Achievement and Recognition (STAR) awards attended a dinner and awards ceremony at Food in Worthing...

The event was hosted by Trust chairman Hywel Evans and chief executive Marianne Griffiths.Guest of Honour was Roisin Isaacs who featured on Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire and has been a patient at St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester.In May the Trust launched the STAR awards to enable members of the public, staff and volunteers to nominate colleagues or teams for an award. There were nine categories, including patient safety, leadership for improvement, outstanding clinical contribution, outstanding non-clinical contribution, valuing people, innovative practice, unsung hero and a team award. Siew Lu Chan, was chosen as overall Employee of the Year from the previous Employee of the Month winners. This scheme was launched in October 2009 and recognises and rewards individuals who go that extra mile in their roles. Chief Executive Marianne Griffiths explains: “It certainly was a stellar night in every sense! The excitement mounted as we revealed the winners and they collected their awards to generous applause from colleagues and friends.”
