Kent dominates 2011 National Fruit Show at Kent Showground: Social Event

Kent growers dominated the prize list at the National Fruit Show held at the Kent Showground. Organised by the Marden Fruit Show Society, visitors judged this year’s show to be ‘the best ever.’ Hadlow College took the opportunity to launch its new Three-Year Apprenticeship programme designed to train people for supervisory and management positions in the industry. Speaking at the launch, Mark Lumsdon-Taylor, the college’s finance director, said: “The industry is in desperate need of highly motivated new entrants. Successful apprentices will be assured of challenging and fulfilling jobs that afford good career progression.” The college is seeking sponsorship money from the private sector to fund apprentice training. This means opportunities for training can made available to a wider age group and include applicants with degree and other higher academic qualifications, categories currently ineligible for entry to government schemes.
