I have lived here for more than 30 years and most mornings I walk my dogs over the fields towards St Mary’s and see this view. It is especially beautiful at this time of year when the crops have been harvested and we are left with a rich yellow stubble.

St Mary’s is one of the 650 medieval churches of this county, the greatest concentration of such buildings in the world, and I shall always marvel at how lucky we are not only to have these beautiful churches punctuating our skyline but also their equally important contents whether it be a hammerbeam roof, stained glass or the monuments to the Coke family which can be seen in St Mary’s.

Around 700 people are expected to take part in this year’s annual cycle ride in aid of the Norfolk Churches Trust and individual churches designated by each participant. His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales has produced a certificate for the person who raises the most sponsorship and Norfolk Churches Trust is also running a photographic competition; www.norfolkchurchestrust.org.uk
