How well do you know the north west coast.

The Irish Sea separates the islands of Ireland and Great Britain and has a major part of the history of the North West coast.

From the bustling port of Liverpool, the seaside resort of Blackpool and the remote fishing villages of Cumbria, the maritime history of the area is rich and diverse.

The movement of people via the Irish Sea has meant that the coast is full of lighthouses that has ensured the safe passage of ships throughout the years, with the advent of new technology, the importance of lighthouses has dwindled which has meant that many are no longer in use and even fallen into disrepair, but their presence reminds us of the importance they held to life in the region in times past.

There are around 15 lighthouses on the northwest coast, from the Perch Rock lighthouse on the Wirral Peninsula to Maryport lighthouse in Cumbria which is actually located on Solway Firth.
