The picturesque village of Stoke St Mary, near Taunton is staging a whole day of unusual fundraising events to mark the Royal Wedding on April 29th.

Festival of Scarecrows - with a King or Queen theme.

Open to the public for a Scarecrow Treasure Hunt. From 2pm.

This is a competition, up to 30 scarecrows will be entered, all inspired by a Royal theme - fact or fiction. The scarecrows will be positioned all around the village, and people will be invited to enter the Scarecrow Treasure Hunt to try and find and identify the scarecrows. There could be anything from King Henry the 8th, to King of Pop, Queen of the May or Queen Victoria! Prizes for winners.

NOT PRINCE CHARMING BUT WORM CHARMING!

A hilarious event for teams or individuals. Entrants register at the local Half Moon Pub any time from 2pm. Just before 4pm all entrants will parade through the village (fancy dress encouraged) to the secret Worm Charming Field. Each team will be given a metre square patch and half an hour to charm as many worms as possible from the ground. Each team is allowed one 2 litre bottle of whatever liquid they believe will help them, but it must past the tasting test first. There will be a Royal Taster on hand just as in time gone past in the Royal Household. Prizes for the most worm conjured up. No worms will be harmed in the process, all worms will be well treated and returned to the ground afterwards.

ALSO: plate smashing,teas 3 - 4pm in the village hall, fancy dress, hungi BBQ at 5pm, music.
