There’s no shortage of yuletide events in Portsmouth and Southsea this month, so fill up on as many Christmas festivities as you can to get everyone feeling merry

Something for the little ones

No doubt they will have plenty of Christmas parties planned in already over the festive season, but this one’s not to be missed. On Saturday 21st Charlie the Clownfish will be hosting his very own shindig at the Blue Reef Aquarium on Clarence Esplanade. The fun starts at 10am with enough activities to keep the elves happy until 4pm. Find out more online at www.bluereefaquarium.co.uk/portsmouth.

It’s behind you

Christmas isn’t Christmas without the whole family seeing a panto. It’s Sleeping Beauty this year at the King’s Theatre in Southsea, which is playing until January 5th. There’s a talented line up of stars including Danniella Westbrook, best known as Samantha Mitchell in Eastenders, who will play Fairy Sparkle. Then there’s Christopher Maloney, 2012 Xfactor finalist, who will sweep Sleeping Beauty off her feet as the Prince. Returning to the Kings is Lynne McGranger, Australian ‘Home and Away’ soap star to play the villain everyone loves to hate, wicked fairy godmother Carabosse. Tickets start from £10 from the box office on 02392 828282 or online at www.kings-southsea.com.

The angels sing

So you’ve dressed-up as Santa, visited all the Christmas markets for your presents, seen the panto at The Kings theatre and created the ultimate wreath. Perhaps something a little more relaxing is in order?

How about listening to the beautiful voices of The Portsmouth Chorus? Their Yuletide Celebrations are certain to get you in to the festive spirit and include Festival Brass, Portsmouth Chorus Junior Choir and Laia Montserrat, violin soloist and winner of the Portsmouth Chorus Cup at Portsmouth Music Festival 2013.

Taking place at the Portsmouth Anglican Cathedral in Old Portsmouth from 7.30pm on December 18, tickets cost £10 for adults, £8 concessions and £6 for children. 02392 619726 or visit www.theportsmouthchorus.com.

Out with a bang

New Year’s Eve can often be a bit of an anti-climax, but not this year, as you could welcome in 2014 with friends and family at the New Years Eve Party at Spinnaker Tower. Guests are encouraged to dress to impress to suit this year’s theme - the New Years Eve Masquerade Party. So find yourself the most elaborate mask possible and book your ticket, costing £45, which includes a welcome drink and canapés. Go online to www.spinnakertower.co.uk.
