The official launch of the new Folkestone Edition will take place on 20 and 21 June with a weekend of tours, talks, workshops, fun activities and a park BBQ

Folkestone Artworks is adding an additional 10 pieces to Folkestone’s gallery without walls this summer and invites readers to join them in celebrating New Edition. Following last year’s Folkestone Triennial, works by Strange Cargo, Diane Dever and Jonathan Wright, rootoftwo, Yoko Ono, Sarah Staton, Pablo Bronstein, Ian Hamilton Finlay Will Kwan and others will enrich the collection and make it one of the biggest contemporary art collections in the public realm of a British town.

On Saturday 20 June from 1pm-5pm a free BBQ with 1000 sausages, 100 songs, 10 things to do and live music from Folkestone based bands will be taking place in Payers Park.

Whistle-stop tours will be available at 11am on Saturday or 2pm on Sunday and artists Diane Dever and Jonathan Wright will be joined by Anna Braithwaite to perform ‘Pent House 2’ from 1pm-5pm on Sunday.

Folkestone Artworks is a collection of 27 contemporary artworks, which are on permanent display in public spaces around Folkestone, 24 hours a day, 365 day a year. The collection aims to deliver an experience of contemporary art within the urban environment, to encourage different ways of seeing, learning and thinking about contemporary art, free of charge.

To explore Folkestone’s gallery without walls, pick up a map and discover works by Tracey Emin, Mark Wallinger, Yoko Ono, Richard Wilson, Pablo Bronstein, Cornelia Parker, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Spencer Finch, Ruth Ewan, Sarah Staton, Hamish Fulton, Richard Wentworth, Nathan Coley, Michael Sailstorfer and many more.

Alastair Upton, Chief Executive of the Creative Foundation says, “These new additions along with the original 16 works have become a key part of Folkestone’s ever evolving landscape, defining it as a unique destination for those who enjoy contemporary art and removing barriers for those that may not usually seek it out. The New Edition weekend is for everybody, young and old, it is a chance to celebrate the Folkestone Artworks and the unique community in which it thrives. So whether you are exploring the new works, discovering the collection for the first time or simply soaking up the summer atmosphere you are more than welcome to join in with the New Edition celebrations.”
