St Leonard’s Hospice in York is celebrating its silver jubilee in style after raising a staggering �53,550 at its Sunflower Ball.

More than 560 guests enjoyed a fun-filled evening at York Racecourse that included a five-course meal, entertainment from The University of York Jazz Quartet, an art exhibition, grand prize draw, charity casino and silent auction.

Sunflower Ball committee chairman Helen Williams said: ‘We were expecting the recession to affect the amount we raised, but thanks to the generosity of everyone, we far exceeded our expectations.’
