The National Trust has revealed its largest ever investment at the world famous Sutton Hoo royal burial ground providing an improved experience for the tens of thousands of people who visit the site every year

Thanks to the £4 million renovation of the historic site, visitors will be more intimately connected with the story of one of the most significant archaeological finds in British history.

The exhibition hall showcasing the Anglo Saxon story has been completely overhauled, as has Tranmer House, the former home of Edith Pretty, who instigated the work that uncovered the burial ship.

Visitors will enjoy a more interactive exhibition with a miniature cinema telling the tale of the discovery, and a new walking route tracing the path the burial ship would have taken from its arrival on the River Deben to the heathland for the burial of a 7th century ruler with his vessel.

Sutton Hoo is now open, showcasing its new additions. The final piece in the project will be the viewing tower due for completion later in the summer.
