Pictures from the 79th Annual Ashover Show
The 79th Ashover Show welcomed record crowds of over 15,500 and enjoyed perfect weather – dry and not too hot. Exhibitors were invited to show their chickens and eggs at Ashover’s first ever Poultry Show and the result was a truly spectacular display. Also new for 2010 was a themed vintage car display – vehicles from the pre- and post-war eras were exhibited alongside dancers in period costume. A wartime theme continued with the vintage tractor show, and Wilf Bown amazed everyone with a JCB display. As always there was a unique blend of entertainment, livestock, over 100 trade stands, craft stands and exhibitions. Around 60 magnificent shire horses and over 100 cattle and sheep were judged and the light horse section offered its usual exciting mix of show classes, show jumping and new side saddle classes.
The spectacular and colourful Grand Parade, a parade of hounds, dog agility demonstration by Animal Magic, a traditional tug of war (won by the Ashover Old Farmers), and music from Ashover Brass Band were just a few of the other attractions that make this such a splendid event. The Appetising Ashover marquee had had to be extended due to popular demand and offered a truly sumptuous selection of food from the best local food producers, and there was a record number of entries in the Horticulture Marquee.
This year’s Show President, John Fisher, noted that the Junior Membership for children under 16 continues to grow, demonstrating the continuing support of the younger members of the community.
