Glorious sunshine, crowds of visitors and great organisation were hallmarks of this year’s highly successful Derbyshire County Show held on 27th June at the Elvaston showground. Monster Trucks and Llama Obstacle Racing joined the traditional heavy horse turnouts, vintage tractors and Mounted Games in the main ring, while the Chesterfield Musketeers provided an impressive interlude of music and marching. Sheepdog handling and falconry featured in the events ring near a great range of fun activities for children – including a merry-go-round. There were impressive entries in the horse and livestock classes as well as the ever popular dog show. Feather, rabbit and bee sections surrounded the craft village and rural crafts demonstrations, and at the other end of the showground local organisations and food producers provided colourful and tasty displays in the horticultural, floral and food tents. A splendid way to spend a lovely summer’s day.
