Find a spot in the grounds to call your own (lay out your picnic blanket, put up your deck chairs and unpack the wine glasses!) and settle in for an afternoon of fabulous entertainment...Gather family and friends and take a step back in time with Chapterhouse Theatre Company to meet Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters. Whilst her mother tries determinedly to pair her off with the detestable Mr Collins, Elizabeth meets the rude and abrupt Mr Darcy. But is there more to him than meets the eye? Jane Austen is one of the most widely read and beloved writers in English Literature, her biting wit and social commentary have earned her a place in history and in our hearts; and as 2013 marks the 200th anniversary of Austen’s most renowned novel, Chapterhouse Theatre Company are proud to bring back Laura Turner’s acclaimed adaptation of Pride and Prejudice to play its part in our Summer tour. Pride and Prejudice, originally entitled First Impressions, was written between October 1796 and August 1796. 16 years later, the revised and renamed manuscript, Pride and Prejudice, was finally published in 1813. Transcending the trends of time, 200 years later Pride and Prejudice still resonates with a modern audience as clearly as it would with that of its contemporaries. In the decades and centuries to follow, Pride and Prejudice, has been translated into over 200 different languages and has been widely adapted for film, television and the stage. Surrounded by 365 acres of parkland, an award-winning championship golf course, Italian gardens and lawns sweeping down to the River Bybrook, The Manor House Hotel is breathtakingly situated on the southern edge of the Cotswolds.
