With the thrills and spills of the RBS Six Nations fresh in the mind and the World Cup on the horizon, the 2015 European Rugby Challenge Cup and Champions Cup finals, featuring the cream of European professional club rugby, will be staged at Twickenham Stadium and Twickenham Stoop. The polo season in Surrey promises to be extra-special this year, with Guards Polo Club near Egham celebrating its 60th anniversary – the Queen attended the club’s 50th birthday, so watch this space. Believed to date back to the 11th century, the Barons’ Cave in Reigate is a fascinating piece of subterranean history. Local folklore has it that on the way to Runnymede to sign the Magna Carta, the barons held a secret meeting there. In any event, the Wealden Cave & Mine Society opens the caves to the public on various dates through the year, starting from this month.

Join the Wey and Arun Trust for a walk along the towpath from Guildford to Shalford Mill, followed by the gunpowder mills via Chilworth Manor. Enjoy the climb up to St Martha’s and back along the top of the Chantries to Millmead via Shalford Park. Take a packed lunch, though there will be a pub stop. This free walk is approximately 10 miles long.

Head to Brooklands Museum to turn back the clock to a decade of fashion, commemoration, style and celebration!
