Not content with marching bands, magicians, martial artists and street artists, Tunbridge Wells Festival organisers have now arranged for an inflatable giant pink pig to feature in the fundraising weekender

Huge Hog to feature in Tunbridge Wells Festival

Having already booked a whole host of marching bands, magicians, martial artists and top class street artists Tunbridge Wells Festival entertainment organisers have now gone the whole hog by arranging for an inflatable, 30-foot pink pig to feature in the fundraising weekender.

Visitors to the inaugural arts and entertainment event, being held on Sunday, August 26, and Bank Holiday Monday, 27, will be able to spot the sleeping sow between more than 80 high-quality stalls in Mount Pleasant Road.

The inflatable PIG installation snuffles, opens and closes her eyes and snores. Throughout the weekend farm hands will give members of the public the opportunity to become suckling piglets, and to take a peek at a 10-minute long unexpected piece of theatre inside her belly.

Marching bands, magicians and martial artists are among the entertainers set to perform at the inaugural Tunbridge Wells festival.

Dozens of the area’s most talented crowd-pleasers have also been added to the festival line-up, including the Boco Flogo marching band, Cascade Dance troupe, street entertainers at the Millennium Clock, Heart FM with dancing girls and acoustic acts on the KMFM stage. There will also be Tai Chi and Zumba displays and an appearance by magician Robert Pound.

Steve Mason, principal festival organiser, local businessman and Chief Executive of Trinity Theatre, said: “We are as happy as pigs in mud to have booked PIG, an eye-catching installation and show that has travelled the globe and featured in the famous Greenwich Festival, and would like also to thank our main sponsors, Town & Country Housing Group, who are committed to delivering quality homes, building communities and improving lives across Kent.’’

“We’re thrilled with the wide variety of talented performers that we have managed to assemble ahead of the festival. With magicians, dance displays and marching bands it looks like the festival will be an extremely colourful affair.”

Jackie Sumner, Head of Community Investment at Town and Country, main sponsor of the festival, added: “We are proud to play our part in putting Tunbridge Wells and the festival on the map and providing opportunities for the local community to celebrate what makes Tunbridge Wells such a great place to live and work.

“The event builds on this year of celebrations and everyone attending is assured of a fantastic time when we celebrate the communities and artistry of Tunbridge Wells.”

Proceeds of the festival will be split between five charities; The Hospice in the Weald, Headway, Pepenbury, Stars Foundation – Cerebral Palsy and Chyps.
