Bank Holiday Sunday in Uttoxeter was enlivened by a May celebration featuring a programme of English folk dancing and music with market stalls and wildlife with Majestic Owls of Leek. The Mayor and Mayoress of East Staffordshire, Cllrs Geoffrey and Pauline Morrison opened the event, as the Britannia Coco-Nut Dancers from Bacup took centre stage in the Market Place. The local Abbots Bromley Horn Dancers were next, followed by Slubbing Billy’s morris clog dancers from the Colne Valley, near Huddersfield. The Uttoxeter Brass Band and Black Cherry Acoustic Duo provided a musical interlude between further performances. The highlight of an increasingly chilly afternoon was a colourful and cheering display by Black Pig Border Morris from the Notts/Derbys border.
