Fire fighters from Blue Watch based at Torquay Fire station helped ‘sizzling’ Zumbarers raise over 800 in aid of National Adoption Week and local charity Families for Children.

The event, held at the Victoria Hotel in Belgrave road, was to celebrate this years’ National Adoption Week and raise awareness of the need for potential adoptive parents to come forward in the Bay. The event included not only 3 hours of Zumbaring but prizes, which was given by the Fire-fighters, for the Best Zumbarer and Best dressed Zumbarer.

Zumba, the Latin American inspired dance, hit the Bay by storm earlier this year and classes have tripled in Torbay alone. The Zumbathon was the second to take place in the last three months

Katey McDonald from Families for Children explains; ‘after the success of the first event in June we had people literally pleading for another one and what a great way to raise awareness in such an important week for us. We had an encouraging number of people from Torbay approach us about adoption during the week’s events and this is the first step to placing a child’.

Once again award winning fitness instructor, Paul Harrison, along Zoe Bowden, Aztec studio coordinator and Winners gym instructor Faye Dearsley, choreographed 3 hours of crazy dance moves for an exciting, fun filled afternoon.Aztec’s studio manager Zoe Bowden says, ‘ This local charity do so much hard work to help families adopt children who need secure and loving homes, that I wanted to help them raise their profile and some funds with this amazing event. We had over 100 people Zumbaring their socks off!’

Katey continues “I must say a huge thank you to all those who supported the event again and especially to Paul, Zoe and Faye who gave their time to make sure this event was a success. We also had enormous support from volunteers and local business’ donated an outstanding number of prizes for our raffle who made the event such a success”
