Regarded as one of the Peak District’s ‘most complete 18th century villages’, Winster is renowned for its glorious period properties. The historic village has around 70 listed buildings, including the handsome 17th century Old Market Hall, which is owned by the National Trust, and the nearby pilastered Winster Hall.

The Grade II listed Bank House is located in a prime position on the village’s West Bank, overlooking St John the Baptist’s Church. The six bedroom property is believed to date back to the 17th century but was later developed in the 18th and 19th centuries and as a result displays a mix of architectural styles.

In recent years, Bank House has been carefully renovated and sensitively refurbished. Great care has been taken to preserve the historic elements of the property, whilst a stylish blend of traditional and contemporary features have helped to create a modern family home suited to 21st century living.

Accommodation includes a variety of both formal and informal living spaces, with four marvellous reception rooms. The panelled drawing room features a stunning decorative moulded chimney piece and has lovely views of the garden, whilst the south-facing dining room has an attractive oak floor and tall stone chimney piece.

The light and bright family kitchen is fitted with a range of bespoke walnut units with limestone worksurfaces, and features French doors that open out onto the garden, a range of built-in appliances and an Aga. An eye-catching feature is a glazed ‘link’ that passes through the internal courtyard and connects the kitchen to the staircase hall. Other useful spaces include a study, play room, utility room, cloakroom, boot room and cellars.

The upper floors of Bank House are accessed via a staircase that leads past an enchanting full height stained glass window. There are three bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor – including a master bedroom suite with a dressing room and an en suite bathroom – plus three further bedrooms, a bathroom and a roof terrace with far-reaching views on the second floor.

The property is accessed by electric gates which open on to a parking area and the grounds include immaculate lawns, raised shrubbery borders, peaceful seating areas and a main walled garden. Here, there’s a lovely south-facing terrace with marvellous views of the church and the countryside beyond.

Situated adjacent to Bank House is Rose Cottage, a charming property available by separate negotiation. It combines a sitting room, kitchen, two bedrooms, a study area and a contemporary bathroom.

Highlights in the village of Winster itself include a shop, post office and two inns. There are a number of good schools in the area and a wider range of facilities available in the nearby towns of Matlock, Bakewell and Ashbourne.
