Long considered a jewel in Norfolk’s crown, the pretty Georgian town of Holt is well known for its thriving high street, excellent arts scene and pretty surroundings. The town has a rich history with parts dating back to Roman times, but a major fire in 1708 destroyed most of those early buildings, including the church. In the years that followed it was rebuilt using the distinctive stone and flint which is such an important part of its character today. The high street and market place retain their Georgian charm, but there are also small stone Victorian yards which have been transformed into little tucked away havens full of quaint shops, cafes and galleries waiting to be discovered.
