Aneka Truman - made in Somerset

Taunton-born designer Sarah Truman has created her new fashion label for real women - made-to-measure and made in her home county.

The Aneka Truman label is the conception of Taunton-born London College of Fashion graduate Sarah Truman. She describes her label as an innovative approach to fashion; developed to defy the size debate issue and acknowledge the beauty of real women. This smart, sophisticated womenswear is designed for the unique shape and size of individual women; incorporating a personalised touch of ‘everyday haute couture’, on a budget. With a wide choice of colour and the ability to choose your individual length, each garment can be personalised to show-off the best attributes of the wearer, all at high street prices. To avoid the current size debate issue in the fashion industry and allow women to wear garments that fit their body shape, Aneka Truman items are made to order; customers are measured by Aneka Truman representatives and placed in the most suitable fit. “It doesn’t matter whether it’s a size 18 or a size 12, only that it looks amazing on the individual, and most importantly that they feel fantastic wearing it,” says Sarah. And to fulfil a made-to-order strategy and adhere to the ethical ethos of the company, garments are made in Great Britain by seamstresses working in Somerset. The concept for Aneka Truman was developed during Sarah’s final year at London College of Fashion and consolidated during the time spent working in the fashion industry; for Levi Strauss in Belgium and Clarks HQ in Somerset. Launched in 2011 under the Trumaan brand name, Aneka Truman has been re-branded and re-launched due to a trademark challenge. The launch fashion show took place earlier this autumn in aid of St. Margaret’s Hospice. Raising more than 700 for the cause and providing guests with a two-course meal. A variety of local businesses showcased their products and the Aneka Truman Autumn/Winter 2012 collection was modelled by real women of different shapes and sizes. To promote collaboration between local businesses, the photo shoot for the Autumn/Winter 2012 collection took place in the beautiful building and grounds of Rumwell Hall with the involvement of Taunton-based Martin Hill Photography and Combers Hairdressers. For the fashion-savvy woman, Aneka Trumancould be the future of the high street: a unique one-off purchase to make you feel and look fabulous.
