The story of FOPE jewellery began in Vicenza, Italy, in 1929 by Italian goldsmith Umberto Cazzola. It’s since become one of the world’s most sought after jewellery brands, chosen for every occasion and mood.

FOPE jewellery has evolved greatly through the decades, while remaining true to its values: unmistakable quality, attention to detail and true elegance. FOPE is an acronym, which in English translates to Factory of Jewellery Precious Export, and this year, celebrates its 90th anniversary.

Laings Jewellers is a prestigious family-run jeweller with over 179 years' experience in the industry. They're proud to display a selection of pieces from FOPE's collections: MaiLuce, Solo Venezia, Vendome, Prima and several more.

Laing's diamond specialist, Saffron Cavalier, showed us around their Southampton store and explained why FOPE is so unique and adored around the world.

A family-run business for centuries

FOPE remains a family-run business to this day, and is now run by the family's third generation. FOPE jewellery continues to be crafted in Vicenza, the town it was established in, and production and administration is still based under one roof, not far from the original premises.

Unique design and features

FOPE jewellery is renowned for its strong geometric shapes and distinctive details. In 1985 FOPE launched the Novecento mesh which brought FOPE success in Italy and, later, world-wide.

Saffron told us: "FOPE is one of the world's most iconic and recognisable international jewellery brands. Their jewellery is distinctive and stands out, but is also comfortable and easy to wear. One of the most impressive features of FOPE's Flex'it collection is that it is created without soldering.

"The pieces are crafted solely in 18 carat gold and are fully flexible thanks to tiny gold springs hidden between each link. There are several Flex'it collections and they all include matching necklaces, rings and earrings in yellow gold, white gold and rose gold. This unique design means that you don't need anyone to help you put your bracelet on - it will simply roll on and off."

Inspired by incredible Italian architecture

Saffron explained: "FOPE's collections take inspiration from the world around them and the incredible journey that the jewellery has been on. The Solo Venezia collection was inspired by the beautiful, traditional lace art of the Venetian Island of Burano, whilst Eka means 'one' in Sanskrit and explores the concept of adding flexibility to jewellery. The designs take inspiration from the roots of Italian fashion, transforming centuries of style into contemporary pieces."
