Somerset based Penny Gunter has built a successful business from her home in Wrington, with her mobile boutique. She is a consultant with Captain Tortue which has been designing and selling ladies’ and children’s clothing for over 20 years.

Founded in the South of France, the company has been selling in the UK through its network of consultants for 10 years.

Penny says it is a social shopping experience.

“We organise small get-togethers where I take the clothes to my clients’ homes and they enjoy a refreshingly different way to shop over a coffee or a glass of wine. They love that they can enjoy some fashion retail therapy without the headache of trawling around the shops, trying to find a top to match the skirt that they have just bought, trying to buy an outfit in their lunch hour, or dragging grumpy partners and children with them.”

Captain Tortue has created an innovative fashion concept that offers unlimited combinations of beautifully designed clothes to wear every day. The company produces clothes that are dual purpose, such as the two-in-one tunic dress which can be worn as a top or a dress thanks to an ingenious zip incorporated into the design. Many garments in the collection are made up of two pieces that can be worn together or separately to give an entirely different look.

Penny says: “Our most expensive item this season is a dress at £89. Most items come in sizes 6 to 24, they are only available from independent consultants, and cannot be bought in shops or online which also makes them exclusive and sought after.

“My customers love that I have collections that hit all the key trends in a wearable way.

“This season is all about ice cream shades, sports lux, updated classics, graphics, black and white and monotone. Bomber jackets are one of the season’s must have items, as are yellow zing skinny jeans, sheer fabrics and logo tees.

“Our SS15 collection is about fresh tropical prints, a play with shapes and geometric patterns, transparent fabrics with solid and transparent panels and electric stripes. Denim and suede are very much in evidence this season.

“Colours are scuba blue (suits most skin tones!), papaya, strawberry ice, classic blue, pineapple yellow and toasted almond to name a few. These are blended with base colours of black, white and glacier grey. Our clothes can be easily layered and work with leggings, jeans and trousers to accommodate the British spring weather.

“I will definitely be wearing the light grey jeans; these I can jazz up with the Chanel style black / taupe jacket and grey / yellow flower top.

“I’m going to a gala dinner and will be wearing our geometric, scuba blue, white and black dress – by adding sheer tights, dressy heels and some statement jewellery this will be perfect amongst the cocktail dresses. It will look just as good, but more casual with flats for a less dressy look later on in the season.
