Bath in Fashion 2011’s Charity Shop Challenge sets the spotlight on the amazing fashion treasures to be found in Bath’s charity shops where you can discover stylish good as new clothes without breaking the bank. Fashion students from Bath Spa University have set the challenge as they have the inside track on just how creative you can be using charity shop chic.

The challenge is to style a fabulous fashion look from items found in local charity shops in the city. The swanky Oxfam Boutique has led the way in spotting the potential of styling outfits from top label gear, and recently charity shops have risen through the style stakes. Not only are people perfectly happy to admit their style is inspired by charity shop finds, but they are a great source to find on trend and vintage-looking ensembles. With pressure on the pay packet and for students looking for inspiration this is the way to go.

Contestants can spend no more than 20, and must have purchased items from at least two different charity shops. The criteria for the competition is to style a fashion look from the charity shop buys and to produce a fashion shot of the outfit. Not only can you indulge in your passion for shopping, but it is guilt-free as you have the bonus of knowing you are helping others and recycling fashion.

Lucky finalists will win the chance to see their at the Urban Style fashion event at SouthGate, Bath on Friday 25th March. The winning ensemble will be selected by our Bath in Fashion 2011 stylist Rebekah Roy, who has styled shows at London Fashion Week, as well as Harvey Nichols, Kate Nash and Little Boots.

The overall winner will win a dinner for two at the Walrus and Carpenter.

Full details and entry requirements will be available at participating Charity shops throughout Bath from 16th February. Each entry will be a styled shot of the Charity Shop buys, and photographs are to be submitted to the Oxfam Store on George Street no later than 3pm on Monday 14th March. Entrants will be asked to staple their receipts to the back of their photographs and clearly write their name, mobile number and email address.
