A charitable donation
Eastleigh College students and staff recently showed their support for their community and local charities when they presented a cheque for over £1400 to both Solent Mind and Cancer Research UK.
The money was raised through a range of fundraising activities that took place throughout the 2012/13 academic year, which included a college jeans day, raffles, cake sales, a quiz night, a Christmas lunch and craft sales.
Solent Mind provides a wide range of high quality services to support people with mental health problems across the southern region. Richard Barritt, CEO said: “We do a lot of work with young people in schools and colleges and we are extremely grateful to Eastleigh College for choosing to support us.” While Pam Cotton, Secretary of the local Fundraising Cancer Research UK committee, added: “We really appreciate how much work goes into fundraising so are very grateful to the students and staff for all their efforts.”
Fundraising for the new academic year is already underway with more events and activities planned for both staff and students.

Junior Bake Off Champion
Hampshire boy Harry, aged 11, who took part in the junior version of The Great British Bake Off, baked his heart out and battled through the heats to go on to win the title of Junior Bake Off Winner 2013.
Harry wowed judges Mary Berry and James Martin with his Rabbit Muffins and a Pocketwatch Carrot Cake with orange butter cream and homemade fondant icing in the Alice in Wonderland themed final.
Throughout the competition he grew in confidence and was thrilled when he was announced as the winner. He says: “I nearly ran out of time and didn’t think I would win so when they called my name I was shocked but over the moon. I’ve had an amazing experience and it’s all been great fun”.

Gold rush
Salesian College have triumphed at the ISA Swimming London West Regional Finals held at the Surrey Sports Park winning an amazing 33 medals of which 28 were Gold. Furthermore, the College retained both the senior boys and overall boys winners trophies. Mr Patrick Wilson, Headmaster commented: “Once again Salesian College has excelled in sport. It was hard to believe that we would beat the 26 Gold medals the swimming team won last year, but to achieve 28 Gold medals this year is a fantastic achievement. Well done to all our students who competed with such success.”

Back to school
It was back to class for old boys and girls of Norman Court School, known as ‘Old Northavians’ recently. A school reunion celebrated both the old and welcomed the new with a drinks party attended by The Mayor of Test Valley, Councillor Janet Whiteley. The Infants and Montessori Nursery Department was alive with chat about the past, along with fascination as to how the school has progressed following it’s re-opening this September.
