This year’s school musical production in the Layard Theatre was a premiere of a production entirely written by Canford’s Director of Music, Christopher Sparkhall, and Classics master Maurice Walters.
The story of ‘Ebenezer’ told of the early years of Scrooge’s life and of how he gained his notoriety. It was a truly magical show which was over two years’ in the making, from the early discussions, through to writing the initial story and musical score, casting, set design, costume production and rehearsals within an already extremely busy school timetable.
One theatre goer commented on how ‘very professional’ it was ‘in every aspect’ with a number feeling ‘it could easily hold its own on a West End stage.’ ‘It was beautifully choreographed with exceptional singing and acting, and the Canford Band was outstanding.’
Many congratulations to all those involved both back and front of stage in providing such a memorable evening.
