Cheltenham College is renowned as one of the country’s leading co-educational independent schools for boarding and day pupils aged 3 – 18. Offering outstanding education within a warm and vibrant community, the school is situated in 76 acres of beautiful grounds in the heart of Regency Cheltenham.
The Junior School, complete with its own sports fields, garden allotments and multiple playgrounds nestles in a woodland setting adjacent to College. Kingfishers, its vibrant pre-prep department which has been classed as ‘outstanding’ by both Ofsted and ISI, caters for pupils from age 3 to 7. It has its own cottage and classrooms within the school, as well as its own Forest School for outdoor learning. Boarding on either a full or flexi basis is offered to pupils from age 7 upwards, with the bright, airy dorms and action packed weekends offering a real home from home.
College, founded in 1841 as one of the first great Victorian schools, has built up a strong reputation for its first class all-round education and modern thinking, combined with a real sense of history and tradition. This year saw 6th formers achieve a second consecutive year of record-breaking A Levels with 81% A* - B across the board. Last year saw the unveiling of the new library (complete with ipad docking stations and a specific careers and university library), new Science classrooms, a new dance studio, extra drama teaching space, as well as a complete renovation of the main theatre; Big Classical. With a new girls’ boarding House planned for opening in September 2013, the College is going from strength to strength under the leadership of Dr Alex Peterken.
In both schools, the extraordinary breadth of extra curricular activities complementing the academic curriculum remains unparalleled, as does the variety and depth of sports teams. Over 40 clubs, societies and sports teams are offered in the Junior School while off the pitch, College pupils enjoy 3rd Form challenge, community Service, CCF, overseas expeditions and over 30 weekly clubs. There is, quite simply, never a dull moment!
