A co-educational school in which 310 boarders and 310 day pupils enjoy a full boarding experience in an inspiring and stimulating environment

Eastbourne College is busy and purposeful but not hectic or pressured; a co-educational community in which every pupil, boarding or day, enjoys the full breadth and variety that only a full-boarding school can provide. Above all, it is a place of opportunity, where individuals are respected, nurtured and encouraged to discover and develop their own individual strengths and where lifelong friendships are forged. The College offers a vast range of activity, success and excitement every day and our pupils make the very most of the opportunities available to them.

The College is selective, but not highly selective. Throughout their time at the College every pupil is encouraged and supported in the pursuit of academic excellence and every year many far exceed all expectations. Pupils across the ability range achieve academic excellent results in line with highly selective schools: in 2011 97.5% of all GCSE taken were graded A* - C, 82% of all A levels taken were graded at A*to B and 10% of the Upper Sixth gained places at Oxford and Cambridge.

The College is fortunate to possess a range of outstanding facilities including some of the best science and design technology teaching resources in the country. The latest addition to the school is the Birley Centre, a contemporary performing arts centre which provides the College with a state-of-the-art facility complete with a professional recording studio, numerous teaching spaces and a flexible performance auditorium. Additionally, the foyer provides a wonderful exhibition and social space.

The opening of the Birley Centre in October 2011 heralds the completion of phase one of an exciting new period of development in Eastbourne College’s history. The next phase of the programme will be to completely redevelop the current dining facilities to create a social complex to meet the ever-changing needs of a 21st century boarding school.

Every pupil is encouraged to take full advantage of in the College’s extensive sports programme, with many achieving excellence at regional and national level. The College is particularly proud of its achievements on the hockey field where every single year for the last ten years one, or more, of the girls’ teams have been crowned Sussex Champions. In addition to the traditional sports, pupils have the opportunity to play Rugby Fives, learn to row or take advantage of the College’s enviable position on the South Coast to try their hand at sailing.

The creative arts departments at the College actively encourage all pupils to explore their dramatic, musical and artistic abilities. The drama department stages regular productions which involve pupils from all age groups. In addition to performing, pupils have the opportunity to develop their technical and stage management skills in both the College Theatre and the stunning new auditorium at the heart of the new Birley Centre. Music of all genres is welcomed and celebrated throughout the College, whether a pupil wishes to play a traditional instrument and join the College orchestra, or whether their passion lies in jazz or rock music, there is a place at the College for them to develop their interest. Art and design technology are extremely strong with many individuals winning many awards and scholarships. The Art School is justly proud of its facilities and the stunning Design & Technology Department places Eastbourne College amongst the very best schools in the country for DT facilities.

At Eastbourne College, the achievements of every pupil are recognised and applauded by their both their teachers and contemporaries. Alongside the provision of a first-class education, time is set aside to develop the values that are fundamental to success at every level - the pursuit of excellence, participation, integrity, courtesy and kindness.

Eastbourne College is a warm and welcoming place that has the education, development and happiness of each boy and girl, boarding or day pupil, at the heart of everything it does.
