Education news from around the county
Bancroft’s School, Woodford Green, is delighted to announce that 11 of its current U6 students have received offers from either Oxford or Cambridge to read a variety of subjects. Such places are highly oversubscribed and increasingly competitive, particularly for maths, medicine and economics. All places are conditional on the students’ A Level results this summer.
Grades pending, five pupils are off to Oxford in September: A further six hope to take up their places at Cambridge. The successful Cambridge applicants are: Tony Aloysius (Medicine, Downing); Emma Jackson (Medicine, Robinson); Peter Andreev (Trinity, Maths); Hannah Bousfield (Newnham, Philosophy); George Margetson-Rushmore (Economics, Girton) and Lucy Ruben (Music, Christ’s). The five hoping to go to Oxford are: Isham Kapur (Law, St Hilda’s); Nasr Islam (Geography, Hertford); Ruchi Bagga (Geography, Keble); Tatiana Blagoderova (English and French, St Ann’s) and Shamus Anwar (Law, open).
Head mistress, Mary Ireland, said: ‘These students have performed exceptionally well and the competition for these prestigious offers gets tougher every year. They are not just up against the best in this country, but also the best in the world. As a School we will be supporting them, and all members of our Upper Sixth, over the next few months in the run up to these important exams.’
