Children visited the Lee Valley Park Farms and had a field to fridge milk tour

Around 60 Year 4 children from Northwick Park Primary School in Canvey Island learned about food production in a Field to Fridge educational tour at Lee Valley Park Farms recently. The children learnt how the farm grows crops and what they are used for as well as how the farmers look after the animals, including a visit to the milking parlour to learn about the milking process. The highlight of the tour was when students had the opportunity to meet and greet the cows ‘up-close’ as some children commented that they had not seen a real cow before.

Lee Valley Park Farms’s youth and schools manager, Karen Wheeler, said: ‘Sessions like these are great for helping children understand the food production process and discover where many of the things they take for granted come from.’
