A new head teacher launches an exciting learning journey
A new head teacher, Sarah Weller, is now in post at Hipperholme Grammar Junior School near Halifax. Her appointment follows the retirement of Louise Reynolds who led the independent school for six years.
Mrs Weller was previously head of Key Stage 2, and her arrival marks a new era for the school which celebrates its 100th anniversary this month. ‘I am delighted to take up the headship after a long and happy teaching career at Hipperholme Grammar Junior School (HGJS). With Mrs Reynolds and our talented team of staff, parents and pupils, we have created a unique learning environment, combining small class sizes and excellent teaching with traditional values,’ said Mrs Weller.
‘However, we are focussed on the future and this is the beginning of a new chapter which I am excited to be part of. Education is a journey and using our initials, I have introduced a new school motto which I feel is significant of the approach here at HGJS: Here Great Journeys Start!’
Mrs Weller grew up in Brighouse and still lives in the town with her husband and two teenage children.
After leaving Brighouse Girls Grammar School, she gained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Leeds University, but her study of education and teaching practice took place in and around Scarborough.
‘I still like to visit Scarborough and have fond memories of my time there,’ said Mrs Weller. ‘In fact, the whole family welcomed in the New Year by watching fireworks on the beach at North Bay. It felt special to be celebrating this new phase of my teaching career in the town where it all began.’
