The Raspberry Pi Club at Lavant House have been selected for the final of the PA Consulting Raspberry Pi Competition 2015, to be held in the Science Museum in London on Tuesday 24 March. This makes their project, Smoke Pi, one of the top three entries at secondary level in the UK.

The Raspberry Pi - a low-cost, credit-card-size computer, was launched to stimulate interest in programming and is now very popular in schools.
Lavant House Raspberry Pi Club (consisting of; Eloise, Abigail, Hannah, Milly and Rebecca) has entered the category of; PA Consulting Secondary School Award: academic years 7-11. Their entry, ‘Smoke Pi’, detects the smoke level in the environment and provides audio and visual warnings to alert the user of high levels of smoke. Lavant House’s Raspberry Pi Club has been very active and recently got involved in the BBC School Report Project. Thanks to their hard work and that of Forms I and II, Lavant House is the first school in the UK to complete the inaugural BBC School Report Computing Challenge. They were featured on the BBC School Report website ticker, tweeted by the BBC and will receive a certificate later in the year.
Form III girls have been learning how to make music using the Raspberry Pi computer and their programming skills. Each girl in Form III created an original piece of music using Sonic Pi on the Raspberry Pi computer. Elisa was one of five UK finalists at secondary level in the inaugural Sonic Pi computer programming competition. Elisa had to create a two minute piece of music on the Raspberry Pi computer using her new computer programming skills. As part of her prize, the girls in Form III will be enjoying a half day workshop at Lavant House, led by Dr Sam Aaron, the creator of Sonic Pi.
