National Recognition of Excellence for St Joseph’s School

The Independent School Association is an association of approximately 300 accredited schools nationwide. The association selects one school each year to receive its most coveted award, the Award for Excellence.

At the annual conference held in Bristol last week St Joseph’s School, Launceston was named as the winner of this prestigious award for 2011 which was presented by the Association Chairman Mr Arthur Bray. The school was represented at the conference by Mr Graeme Garrett and Mrs Sue Rowe.

The citation on the award reads: In recognition of outstanding public examination attainment in 2009 and 2010, excellent Key Stage 2 results, national recognition for music and ballet, contribution to the community through charitable fund-raising, high achievements in individual and team sports, success at all levels in the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme and a significant rise in pupil numbers’.

Mrs Rowe, Acting Head, is delighted for all the staff, pupils and parents at St Joseph’s who have contributed so much in order to secure this award.

Mrs Rowe said “It is wonderful that achievements in so many areas have been recognised and we will continue to provide an excellent education with small classes and high expectations. I am particularly pleased that the citation recognises the high quality all round education provided at St Joseph’s for both girls and boys. For some time our academic results have been widely recognised as excellent but this award highlights the outstanding performance across the board.”

Over the past twelve months pupils from St Joseph’s have represented the school in National, Regional and County Competitions. The choir were invited to sing at the Royal Albert Hall and the Junior Football and Junior and Senior Netball teams have won their respective leagues.

The huge success of the school has also been reflected by a 20% increase in pupil numbers over the last eighteen months.

Over the last two years pupils at St Joseph’s School have organised their own fund raising initiatives that have raised in excess of 6,000 for charity. This follows the school ethos of community spirit being at the centre of all we do.

With pupil numbers higher than ever, St Joseph’s School are looking forward to further success in the future.
