Little pots of care

Pupils from Rookwood’s Pre-prep and Nursery Schools have been learning about science, nature and the work of the Marie Curie nurses, by growing their own daffodils this month.

The pupils, aged three to seven have been using their creative skills to design and decorate their pots with beads and glitter before making a donation for their plant, raising money for the charity. Mrs Melanie Brickell, Head of Rookwood’s Pre-Prep School said: “There were some very generous donations to this really worthy charity and the children all had fun whilst learning about nature and caring.”

Celebrity connections

Journalist, broadcaster and author Jeremy Paxman made a recent visit to Bedales school to attend a special gathering of the School’s History Society entitled ‘The Green Ribbon Club’ in advance of a special battlefields tour for Block 3 students (Year 9) to The Somme and Ypres.

Headmaster of Bedales Schools, Keith Budge said, “The students were thoroughly engaged in Jeremy’s talk as he described fascinating individual stories from the War and its impact on the country and society. Our history students in particular appreciated the opportunity to meet with Jeremy and understand his inspiration for researching such an important part of the country’s history.”

75 years of orchestrated learning

Alton Convent School continued its 75th Anniversary Celebrations with a concert recently from the current pupils from both the prep and senior schools, past pupils and parents. The repertoire was varied with choirs, strings and woodwind solos each performing well known classics such as Whistle Down the Wind, Skyfall, Bach Concerto in D minor and Gershwin’s I Got Rythym.

Love for language

Salesian College have been inspiring students to learn another language by holding a week of activities, themed lunches and taster lessons in Arabic, Chinese, German, Gujarati, Hindu, Italian, Mandarin, Russian and Turkish.

Mrs Isabel Cardona, Modern Foreign Languages Enrichment Coordinator at Salesian College said: “Holding a Languages Week gave our students the chance to celebrate true cultural awareness by linguistic diversity, to explore the importance of languages in the international market place and take a unique opportunity to enrich their knowledge of how language works. The study of modern foreign languages is a beacon of universal values which results in more rounded individuals.”
