Bridgwater College is delighted to announce that its Childcare Centre has been graded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted – and achieved ‘Outstanding’ in each and every one of the 17 categories used by inspectors to judge the quality of the provision.

Inspectors visited the Centre in April this year under a no-notice inspection policy, and their findings have just been published. Their observations include, “Children are thriving at this exceptional setting. They are extremely well supported and benefit from a team of enthusiastic and highly dedicated staff, who have an excellent understanding of each child’s individual needs. Staff are deployed in a highly effective way, enabling them to focus completely on the children. Consequently the children are purposefully engaged in their play and feel settled. All children are cared for tenderly and with great affection. As a result they feel secure, extremely happy and confident. The children clearly thrive and make consistent progress across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage.”

In the report, inspectors also commented on the exemplary safeguarding procedures, as well as the excellent partnerships with parents and other agencies. The ‘homely’ and well-resourced nursery environment was identified as a predominantly outstanding feature, along with the use of outside space, with particular praise for the garden and opportunities for free-flow outdoor play and the chance to engage in forest school activities.

Principal of Bridgwater College Mike Robbins said, “This is a fantastic outcome for our Childcare Centre and we are absolutely delighted by the news. Much praise must go to our Childcare Centre Manager Kate Kift and her excellent team, who work so hard to ensure the success of the Centre; indeed, inspectors regularly commented on their enthusiasm, dedication and complete commitment to providing the best possible experience for all children in their care. We send our warm congratulations to everyone involved, including the parents who were consulted during the inspection and who were so very complimentary about the service we provide.”

The Childcare Centre is now one of the top achieving in the South West, where, according to Ofsted, only 15% of early years and childcare inspections have received ‘outstanding’ outcomes, and it also compares very favourably nationally, where only 17% of inspections result in ‘outstanding’.
