What do you hope to do after sixth form?
I hope to study civil engineering at university. I believe that civil engineering is one of the most diverse professions as it covers designing, constructing and improving the physical environment. I also want to develop and improve the services that myself and the public use on an everyday basis.
What is your dream job?
My dream job would be to be involved in a project that many people can directly benefit from it and be proud of my work. I would also like to be involved in the sustainable elements of engineering as I believe that sustainability is a going to be a problem in the future due to the volume of finite resources decreasing and an increasing population.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing your generation?
I consider the sustainability of population growth to be the biggest challenge facing my generation. This is due to the pressure that it creates on finite resources such as forests and fossil fuels. Furthermore the use of these finite resources is causing higher levels of carbon dioxide to be emitted.
What is the one thing that really annoys you?
One thing that really annoys me is the lack of manners; a please and thank you can go a long way even for the smallest of things.
If you could say one thing to David Cameron what would it be?
I would ask David Cameron the following question, ‘Which policy that you have implemented do you feel is most important and why?
What is the one thing adults could do to make your life better?
One thing that adults could do to make my life better would be to reduce the level of health and safety. Although I understand that a person’s safety should not be compromised I personally learn from the mistakes I have made. I believe that high levels of health and safety mean that people have a misconception of judgement
Do you have a role model? If so, who and why?
My role model is Ted Happold who was a civil engineer. I especially like how he realised and understood the importance of communication between architects and civil engineers, which was a relatively new concept at that time. He has personally inspired me by the work he has been involved in such as the Sydney Opera House, Australia and the Pompidou Centre, France.
Tell us about the thing you are most passionate about
I am passionate about giving back to the community and helping people who are less privileged than me. Last year a group of friends and I designed and made Christmas decorations and sold them at the local market. In total we raised over £700 for Julian House- local homeless charity and Bath City Farm- helping young people in the city to experience a farm. I felt that this was a very rewarding experience as people in need could directly benefit.
