A former head chorister at Gresham’s School is one step closer to her dream career after joining the National Youth Theatre.
She wowed her fellow pupils with a starring role in the school production of Miss Saigon and was a popular cast member at Sheringham’s Little Theatre, and now Emma Wright has won a place at the prestigious National Youth Theatre (NYT).
Former Gresham’s pupil Emma, who is currently a music student at the University of York and a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, says: “The audition was split in to three parts, movement and physical theatre, devising and improvisation, and an individual monologue. About 50 people auditioned the same day; it was quite intense but a lot of fun and it was great to meet so many like-minded people. I cannot begin to explain how grateful I am to have been given this opportunity; it’s such an honour.”
The NYT has an impressive alumni, including actors Ben Kingsley, Orlando Bloom and Dame Helen Mirren. Next month, Emma, from Field Dalling, near Holt, will be playing the role of Natalie in Next to Normal as part of the University Musical Society’s summer showcase, and appearing in the Opera Society’s production of The Magic Flute in The Grand Opera House in York.
