Wycliffe College – generations of inspiring generations
As we look back on the spectacular summer Olympics and forward to the new academic year, the theme from London 2012 that resonates at Wycliffe is ‘Inspire a Generation’. It is a vision that the College has fostered ever since it was founded in 1882.
This successful day and boarding school for 760 girls and boys from 2 – 18 years at a stunning 54-acre setting near Stroud has seen countless generations of pupils going on to succeed in a vast array of disciplines, sports and academic fields, as its ‘Wycliffe Heroes’ roll of honour attests.
In the classroom, the highly skilled and experienced staff have been inspiring students to achieve their best academically, as recently confirmed by the College’s best ever A level results. More than a third of all grades were A* and A in a year in which A grades were harder to achieve. Wycliffe’s Value Added results, which placed the School in the top 2% of UK schools last year, are expected to be even higher this year. At the same time, as part of an on-going significant investment in Science, Wycliffe will be opening two more refurbished Science labs for the third successive year, equipped to university standards.
Investment in facilities to inspire pupils has also been taking place at Wycliffe’s Preparatory School. There is a fabulous new adventure playground at the Lower Prep as well as many other new educational and extra-curricular resources.
Now the School is looking forward to inspiring even greater sporting achievements. Last year these ranged from successfully defending the U19 National Schools Squash title, to the boys in the Prep school winning The Severnside Football Tournament. Great things are expected this year of individuals, building on wins by pupils such as Holly Bankes in Year 7, who was the IAPS National 800m champion.
In the creative and performing arts, talented young musician Alex Symcox wowed judges at the Rotary Young Cotswold Musician of the Year contest, while Lucy Cole, who is a member of the National Youth Choir, won both the U13 vocal classes in the Minchinhampton Young Musician competition.
The Prep School is now so popular in the region that the pupil numbers are the largest that they have been for a decade. However, the school continues to focus on each individual child, with small classes making this possible.
