Designer Emma Beaumont graduated from The University for the Creative Arts in Rochester. The 23-year-old from Mobberley has worked for several designers including Antwerp’s Ann Demeulemeester but is now busy creating a label under her own name.
What do you wear to work?I tend to keep a very minimal style. My normal day tends to be running around to and from my machine working on new designs, so black skinny jeans and tee usually do the trick.
What do you like to wear for a big night out?I usually dress up my skinny jeans with a pair of heels and accessories with chunky rings and necklaces. I enjoy finding individual pieces from independent jewellery designers and antiques shops. You can never go wrong with black: it’s timeless and elegant.
Tell us about your biggest fashion mistake?It was probably forgetting to pack flat shoes when working at Fashion Week. Running around backstage in heel doesn’t work for longer than ten minutes!
Tell us who your favourite designer is?My inspiration is Yohji Yamamoto. Not only his work but also his view on the fashion industry. His short film by Wim Wenders, ‘A Notebook on Cities and Clothes’, changed the way I fit myself within the fashion industry, anyone with an interest in fashion should watch this documentary.
Who has been the biggest influence on your personal style?My university tutor, Ileana. She was crazy and wore nothing conventional but always looked elegant, maybe partially due to her Parisian roots. However, she taught me a lot about having confidence in my own style.
What is your favourite high street shop?Zara is brilliant for new trends and statement pieces. Cos is another favourite: it’s simple but the quality and cut of each garment is impeccable.
Most recent purchase you’re thrilled withI have stopped purchasing recently: if I see something I want I make it! But shoes, I cannot make those. My Acne pistol boots have not been off my feet this winter.
What is your favourite perfume?Jo Malone’s French Lime Blossom for the daytime is so fresh and Tom Ford in the evening.
Which hair and beauty products are in your bathroom?Label M resurrection style dust, a volume and texturising powder, to lift and liven my hair. I also couldn’t do without Lee Stafford’s purple shampoo, it removes any brassiness and keeps hair looking fresh.
Which beauty products would you be lost without?Bobbi Brown Lips and Cheeks is brilliant for a natural glow, it’s less drying than a powder blush or bronzer. In the evening I combine this with Christian Dior Diorshow Blackout mascara for dramatic eyes.
Are you a gym body?I enjoy running and walking, it clears my mind and helps me to stay focused.
Who do you regard as the most stylish man and woman of the last 100 years?Actresses like Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren and Audrey Hepburn knew how to dress with elegance, something I feel can be lost today. I think it’s different for men; figures like Johnny Depp who don’t follow fashion rules, but make it work in a quirky way, have the biggest success in style.
