Stylish BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin reveals her fashion loves and loathes. Along with her husband and daughters, Louise is loving life in Chester, where she moved when the programme transferred to Salford.

What do you wear to work?

I normally wear a smart dress to work, something not too short or too revealing, that isn’t black, and that won’t clash with the orange Breakfast sofa, and heels, always heels. (I am on a mission to really use all the work clothes I have bought in my wardrobe, and am trying not to wear the same thing or buy anything new for as long as I can. I am on week six!)

What do you wear for a big night out?

Again a dress, but probably a shorter one!

Tell us about your biggest fashion mistake My big mistake was wearing a new electric blue Alexander McQueen dress for the first time on The One Show. As I had never worn it before, except in the changing room, I didn’t realise how revealing it was until I did a live 10 second trail on BBC One showing rather more than I had intended. The make-up lady, thank goodness found a vest and with only two minutes to go. I put it on underneath before we went live again.

Tell us about the last occasion you stepped out feeling good

I recently went to a ball wearing a deep blue velvet halter neck dress with diamante straps. I always feel fantastic in it, and the best thing is it was a complete bargain - £60 from TK-Max.

Who do you consider to be the most stylish woman of the past century?

I totally love Victoria Beckham’s style and have always watched what she wears, even going back to good old Spice Girl days. She always looks immaculate, with every detail carefully put together from the sun-glasses to the shoes and the handbag. I think the dresses she designs are fabulous, and wish one day that I could afford one.

What perfume do you wear?

Chance by Chanel.

Which hair and grooming products are in your bathroom?

Aussie Mega shampoo and conditioner. Dermalogica face wash. Nivea Age-Defying hand cream and Jo Malone hand-wash.

Which product would you be lost without?

Babor face cleansing oils.

Are you a gym body?

I do go to the gym when I can, but I have started training for a triathlon, so am now swimming, running and cycling. I have just done my first bike road-race at Tatton Park over 37k and loved it, and next up is swimming in the River Dee.

What’s your favourite thing to do to unwind?

Being at home watching a movie with the children, eating a curry with the dog lying on our feet.

Do you have a grooming tip you swear by?

Spend time taking your make-up off thoroughly. I am sure the years I have spent wearing lots of make-up on the telly and then making sure I have taken it off properly have saved me from at least a couple of wrinkles.

What is your favourite holiday destination?

North Cornwall.

What was the last book you read?

Rush of Blood by Mark Billingham.
