We love it! A label called Knutsford England just has to be a Cheshire favourite.
Modern heritage brands are a huge trend in fashion at the moment , as they’re not only stylish but when we buy them we feel we’re going to have them forever.
Now, thanks to designer Sarah Pardoe Cheshire fashionistas have the perfect excuse to buy a label that is not only superbly made using the finest materials but is already a future classic.
Made in England from the first stitch to the last seam using only the finest materials, Knutsford is inspired by the rich tapestry of British military history and also Sarah’s own personal heritage.
The Heaton Moor-born designer was very much inspired by looking into the wartime past of her own grandfather as much as by a broader investigation into military-inspired style.
Contemporary yet classic, it is a collection that bridges the gap between function and fashion, and Sarah loves the fact they combine a metropolitan chic with a country vibe.
She explains that the Knutsford label was developed from a desire to return to clothing designed and manufactured in England with a wider aim to bring back traditional craftsmanship and create ‘future classics’.
The launch collection features beautifully constructed wax field jackets, parkas and blazers as well as sweaters and accessories for men, cool biker style leather jackets, superbly cut trench coats and riding jackets for women, that have a timeless appeal.
Says Sarah: ‘The brand allies itself with the area as it has a strong military and textile industry. It’s an aspirational place and this is an aspirational brand.
‘But when I started my research I didn’t quite realise the significance of Knutsford’s military history. For example in 1944 when American soldiers were billeted there General Patton and General Eisenhower planned the D-Day landings at the Bells Of Peover pub.
‘And obviously the textile industry still exists in places like Macclesfield where they still produce silk.
‘It’s all about the heritage and the craft. We even use one of the oldest factories in Manchester Cooper & Stolbrand to produce the garments to our exact specifications. They have pattern cutters who have been there since the 1960s and ‘70s and for our knitwear we use Johnsons of Elgin who have a heritage dating back to the 1600s. They are just brilliant to work with. There is a real emphasis on quality.’
To add to the exclusivity of owning a Knutsford England jacket only a limited number of the range has been created.
‘When you get the garment or a bag it is something you can cherish forever,’ explains Sarah.
‘The idea is that they get better and more beautiful with time. They become part of you.’
