The party season is finally here so we asked resident style guru, GUY KREMER, to put us on the path to sensational hair and makeup

Every year, L’Oréal Professionnel invites hairdressers from around the world to take part in a photo-shoot in Paris, to create interpretations of the season’s hair colour and trends. So it’s my pleasure to introduce the looks to you.

Hair is soft, full of face-framing movement and gentle waves on longer hair, offset by upswept ponytails and neatly folded up dos. The make-up is equally chic; perfectly lacquered lips and black winged eyeliner as seen on the Marc Jacobs and Dolce & Gabbana runways.

The designer, Giles, set the tone for a winter romance with stained lips and smoky eyes, while Vivienne Westwood showed sepia toned eyes and dark groomed brows just as Dior went fabulously futuristic with silver eyeliner teamed with fuchsia lips.

I love these two models from the L’Oréal collection, each showing two of my favourite looks. A silver blonde and a rich brunette model, both wearing natural-looking waves so popular at the Isabel Marant, Calvin Klein and Christopher Kane shows; a very pretty look, undone but with a slightly polished feel. And as ponytails were popular again with Alexander Wang, Donna Karan, Jil Sander and Chloe, no surprise this look is part of the collection.

Relatively quick and easy to create and looking fabulously feminine, I just know they will be really popular with my salon clients for the Christmas and New Year party season.

Trend Alert

On my travels visiting the major fashion capitals, I’ve noticed a distinct winter trend developing with the fashionistas for intense evening makeup. Very dramatic, eye-catching looks using bright colours are being used to highlight the eyes and cheek bones. I’ve been captivated by sparkling diamond-coated lips and flashy golden eye shadow, the more restrained ladies using sparkling accessories and black lipstick to make a bold statement. It’s a vibe that’s developed from the more outré looks seen on the catwalks, where some models had their entire faces covered with silvery makeup; all very Gothic and sometimes quite scary! But play it down with just a smidge of glitz, say an over-layer of metallic eye-shadow or a slick of sparkly lip gloss and you can create a brilliant, attention-grabbing, on-trend look that’s perfect for the party season.
