Fitness expert Nana Akua of LadyXsize calls for schools to join her fundraising fun fitness initiative

As an avid lover of all things healthy, I became aware only when I started teaching fitness that weight was such a serious issue. After seeing the impact that obesity has on so many people and from such a young age, I decided to try to help reverse this upward trend and encourage children to be more active.

I launched my free LadyXsize Schools Initiative, a new fundraising concept that not only promotes fitness but also raises money. I have teamed up with various fitness providers such as Powerhoop, and with the support of Richard Harrington MP for Watford (pictured with Nana at Abbots Langley School), we are taking the initiative countywide, helping schools raise money for good causes either within the school or elsewhere.

The initiative works in three parts – a hoop fitness workshop, sponsorship and a hoop-a-thon. Teachers are also encouraged to join in.

It has already proved a major success at Abbots Langley Primary School and many other schools are coming forward. Deputy head Rebecca Negrello said, ‘We are hoping to make it an annual event. Powerhoop has also donated 15 of its weighted hoops to the school.’

Trainer tip: Before a workout, do dynamic rather than static stretches. These are less likey to lead to injury.
