Membership of Exeter Golf and Country Club is about more than ‘just’ the gym or ‘just’ the swimming pools or ‘just the courts’, it’s about having a ‘home-from-home’ where you can enjoy keeping active, having fun, playing sports and relaxing together or maybe indulging in some much-needed time on your own.

As Exeter’s original leisure venue, opening as a golf club in 1895 and adding pools, tennis, squash and fitness in the years since, the country club is as ‘local’ as you can get, with members as shareholders and a history spanning over 125 years in the city.

There’s also much more to come, as the club is part way through a multi-million-pound development plan with new changing rooms, bars, gym and fitness studios on the horizon.

Exeter Golf and Country Club is located just off Topsham Road. At the heart of the club is Wear Park, a Georgian manor house which feels like a country house in the city. A welcome haven of tranquility that feels miles away from the hustle and bustle of Exeter yet just minutes from the centre, Wear Park is home to a restaurant and Elemis spa which are open to everyone – you don’t have to be a member to enjoy food and spa treatments there, but you get a discount if you are.

Choose to join the 4,500 people who are members of the country club and you can also enjoy the indoor and outdoor heated pools, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. The outdoor pool is one of Exeter’s hidden treasures, surrounded by a Victorian walled garden, complete with sun-loungers in the summer months. Open year-round from morning ‘til night, there is really nothing like a moonlit swim on a summer evening or a refreshing dip first thing on a winter’s morning.

Fitness Membership also includes a boutique-style gym with a friendly, motivational environment to work on your fitness goals whatever your level and a wide range of classes from world-class Les Mills programmes through to a choice of yoga and Barre Fitness.

There’s also a dedicated Spin Studio, complete with a floor-to-ceiling screen for immersive virtual classes.

With fully refurbished squash courts completed last month, and new clay tennis courts almost complete, alongside the artificial grass, floodlit tennis courts, with the region’s best coaches, it ticks the box for rackets players too, from children to adults, and from beginners to competitive levels.
