The Radio 2 holistic health expert, Imperfectly Natural Woman author and Herts mum chooses her favourite treatments, therapies and foods in the county

I thought this month I would focus on the health and wellbeing of our animals, instead of us for a change. Much to the annoyance of my children we don’t have pets (four kids is enough, OK!), however we love the opportunity to walk our neighbours’ dog and this is how we came to hear about the RSPCA Southridge Animal Centre in Potters Bar. It’s a unique animal rescue and rehoming centre that has an air of peace and tranquillity about it. Forget that vision of sad ‘lost’ animals – the centre’s dogs, cats, rabbits, horses and other animals are treated with the respect, tenderness and love they deserve. It’s a place where finally they can learn to trust again, a place where their physical and mental needs are met.

It’s funded by the RSPCA and costs around £1,900 a day to run. They are grateful for any donations. If you would like to help, go to

Vince the vet

Continuing the animal theme, I had the pleasure to meet pet nutritionist ‘Vince the Vet’. Vince has twenty years’ experience and is passionate about optimum animal nutrition. In addition to offering advice on the best wholesome diets to feed your pet he has a range of food supplements including ‘Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed’ for dogs and ‘Slick and Sleek’ for cats. Not with my natural health and wellbeing hat on but with my Radio 2 presenter trilby I loved being one of the hosts for a live show from the set of EastEnders a few months back. Don’t miss the BBC and Elstree and Borehamwood Museum joint exhibition of 30 years of the soap filmed at these fabulous Herts studios. It’s free and runs until September 12.
